Platec comments define `sea_level` as the amount of surface area becoming oceanic crust and `num_plates` as the number of areas the surface is divided into.

Advanced tectonic controls (`erosion_period`, `folding_ratio`, `aggr_overlap_abs`, `aggr_overlap_rel`, `cycle_count`) currently run with stable defaults: `60`, `0.02`, `1000000`, `0.33`, `2`.
